What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic was founded by D.D. Palmer and established in 1895 as a healthcare system in the United States. Chiropractic is a science, art and philosophy. The science is based on the physiological fact that our bodies perform better and are healthier when there is no neurological interference. The art is in the skills of each doctor and the technique they choose to use to treat the patient and remove spinal nerve interference. The philosophy is rooted in the understanding that each of our bodies has the inborn ability to heal, control and regulate itself.

Chiropractic care uses hands-on techniques to evaluate and treat certain musculoskeletal problems, particularly those involving the spine, joints and surrounding muscles. Treatment may include spinal manipulation, mobilization, exercise recommendations and other therapies such a Shockwave Therapy or deep tissue massage therapy depending on the patient’s condition. Dr. MacAdam uses several chiropractic techniques such as Gonstead, Diversified, Activator, Thompson Drop and Leander flexion traction/decompression.
